This seminar explores the social construction of identities through artistic practice in Africa. It evaluates notions of the self and the production of subjective identities in African cultures using examples selected from ancient Egypt to the 20th century.
Professor Sylvester Ogbechie, Art History, is a scholar of African and African Diaspora Art with special emphasis on 20th Century contemporary practice. He also teaches Introduction to African Art, African American Art, and Arts of the Non-Western World.
