An in-depth, behind-the-scenes look at Theatre UCSB's production of Brown Baby, directed by the professor. Students will read the play, study some of the background history, and observe all of the aspects of the production itself, including acting, casting, design, directing and script analysis. The seminar will culminate with the viewing of a performance in the Hatlen Theatre, along with a post-play discussion with actors and crew. The goal of the seminar will be to follow the progress of the production from play selection through actual performance. There may be opportunities to attend rehearsals as well (students in this seminar will be observers, not participants in the production).

Professor Irwin Appel, Dramatic Art, teaches Shakespeare, Directing, Theatre Appreciation, and all levels of Acting. He is an Equity actor, director and composer/sound designer and has worked professionally in New York, Los Angeles and at major theatres and Shakespearean festivals throughout the United States.
