Anyone who has traveled has experienced jet lag, an inconvenient reminder that the body is set to a 24-hour clock. An internal biological clock is fundamental to all living organisms, influencing sleep and wakefulness, metabolic rate, body temperature, timing of certain behaviors. In this class, we will explore the nature and operation of biological clocks in ourselves and in the environment around us.

Professor Barbara Prezelin, Ecology, Evolution and Marine Biology, teaches introductory biology and courses in oceanography. Her research has been largely in the area of phytoplankton ecology, with an emphasis on light regulation of photosynthesis and primary production.
