This seminar will look at some of the enduring controversies in American politics as well as a recent political clash. Using the U.S. Constitution as a benchmark, we will explore controversies about freedom of speech and religion, capital punishment, and abortion. We will also discuss controversies surrounding the 2000 presidential election outcome. Seminar format will encourage both debate and discussion of these issues.
Professor Alan Wyner is the Dean of Undergraduate Studies in the College of Letters and Science. He is also a faculty member in political science and teaches courses on Environmental Politics, Public Administration, and California Government and Politics.
