This course introduces students to a global ocean perspective of climate change (global warming and global ozone depletion). Topics will include introduction to the basic science needed to start discussing issues such as: will global warming stop the global carbon pump and eventually trigger an ice age? Is the depletion of stratospheric ozone really a serious threat to aquatic ecosystems? Successful completion of the seminar requires attendance for all scheduled hours as well as active and positive participation in group discussions.

Professor Barbara Prezelin, Ecology, Evolution and Marine Biology, teaches introductory biology and courses in oceanography. Her research has been largely in the area of phytoplankton ecology, with an emphasis on light regulation of photosynthesis and primary production.
