INT94GQ: Contemporary Political Issues In Historical Perspective

This seminar will focus on contemporary political issues such as the war in Iraq, the fall presidential campaign, and other relevant political issues. We will discuss these issues in historical perspective in order to give more background to the events of our day. Students will be asked to report on a major news item each week for discussion. Some films and guest speakers may also be included. The student weekly reports and participation in discussion will serve as the basis for grades.

Professor Mario T. Garcia, History and Chicano Studies, teaches a variety of courses including History of Chicanos, History of the Chicano Movement and Autobiography, and History in the American Experience. His major areas of research include the Chicano movement in Los Angeles from 1965 to 1975, the history of Chicano Catholicism and the spirituality of Cesar Chavez.
