This seminar will explore Native ways of knowing and the impact of colonialism. We will focus on the major factors that have contributed to the intellectual history of Indigenous America and contemporary ecological and environmental concerns. The last part of the class will address how media affects the contemporary American experience both within our inner human nature and how we experience ourselves in the rest of the world.
Professor Ines Talamantez, Religious Studies, teaches Introduction to Native American Religious Traditions, an exploration of the nature, structure and meaning of ritual act and language in the religious life of Native American cultures. She also teaches Religion and Ecology in North America, an analysis of specific themes critical to the understanding of indigenous ways of knowing and the impact of colonialism.
