This class is an introduction to the interdisciplinary field of Gay and Lesbian Studies. As such, readings and discussions will come from the fields of Literature, Film Studies, Sociology, and Cultural Studies, among others. The goal of the class is to both introduce students to works which challenge and discuss questions of gender and sexuality, and to engage all participants in a debate on the ideas presented.
Professor Timothy McGovern, Spanish & Portuguese, teaches courses in literature, gender and cultural production, queer literature, and literary theory. His main research areas include 19th and 20th Century Spanish, Portuguese and Catalan literature, and queer studies.
