The objective of this seminar is to introduce students to the experience of seeing and inhabiting architecture. We will look at issues of form, proportion, light, sound, texture, and color in the built environment, and the manner in which these elements of architecture may be interpreted from different cultural and social vantages.
Professor Swati Chattopadhyay, History of Art and Architecture, teaches courses in 19th and 20th-century Architecture, Urban History, and the Landscape of Colonialism. At present she is working on a book on nationalism, visual culture, and spatial practice in 20th-century India.
