Description:
An in-depth, “behind the scenes” investigation of Theatre UCSB’s production of Idiot's Delight, directed by Irwin Appel, professor of this seminar. Students will read the play, study some of the background history, and observe all of the aspects of the productions itself, including acting, casting, design, direction and script analysis. The seminar will culminate with the viewing of a performance in the Hatlen Theatre, along with a post-play discussion with actors and crew. The goal of the seminar will be to follow the progress of the production from play selection through actual performance. There will be a mandatory attendance at one performance and two rehearsals, along with the possible viewing of additional optional rehearsals. Students in the seminar will be observers, not participants in the production.
Professor Irwin Appel, Dramatic Art and Dance, teaches Shakespeare, Directing, Theatre Appreciation, and all levels of Acting. He is an Equity actor, director and composer/sound designer and has worked professionally in New York, Los Angeles and at major theatres and Shakespearean festivals throughout the United States.
