Drinking Water in the 21st Century

Day: Mondays
Time: 1:00-3:00 p.m.
Location: Webb Hall 1030A

Enrollment Code: 59105

Description:
During the last few decades the demand for drinking and irrigation water has soared creating supply problems globally. Additionally, it is now recognized  that water to support aquatic ecosystem is critical for the environment. The  20th century solution to the supply problem, dam building, has lost its place among planners. New solutions, including recycling wastewater and managed aquifer recharge, have become the primary method for meeting  the new demand both in developed and developing nations. This class will examine the supply problems and the future solutions, which are being considered. It will do so in the context of the hydrologic and its associated hydrochemical cycle.

Professor Jordan Clark, Earth Science and Environmental Studies, is a  geochemist. His research is focused on understanding transport of solutes (often contaminants) in the environment, including through the groundwater system near areas of managed aquifer recharge.
