We’ll be reading one Asian American memoir and selections of fiction, documentaries, and theory included in a Reader to analyze texts that have been made into films, and we will be viewing two films and one short film excerpt to analyze how different forms of texts (memoir, documentary, fiction) get transformed through visual media. We’ll discuss forms of discursive practices and examine differences between specific literary and filmic strategies for setting, character and action.
