Day: First five Thursdays
Time: 9:00-10:50 a.m.
Location: Girvetz 2135
Enrollment Code: 25825
Description:
This seminar introduces students to the ways that people with disabilities
have been portrayed historically in the movies. Students will watch and
discuss examples from early movies of common stereotypes and then look
at contemporary examples of ways writers, directors, and actors have
broken out of simplistic and often demeaning roles to present people with
disabilities as complex individuals. Students will work in small groups to
review a recent movie for the class.
Professor George Singer, Education, teaches courses on family and disability, and methods of teaching individuals with severe disabilities. His research focuses on families of individuals with disabilities and special education.
