INT9BR: Adolescent Rites of Passage: Exploring Religious Diversity in the U.S.

Day: Mondays
Time: 12:00-12:50 p.m.
Location: HSSB 2201

Enrollment Code: 59030

Description:
A careful study of adolescence reveals that there are few rites of passage for entering young adulthood. We will discuss themes such as continuity and change in rites of passage, and responses to leaving the world of adolescence and entering responsible adulthood. In response to present-day spirituality movements, this class will incorporate sacred narratives, oral traditions, ritual dance and the arts.

Professor Ines Talamantez, Religious Studies, teaches Introduction to Native American Religious Traditions, an exploration of the nature, structure and meaning of ritual act and language in the religious life of Native American cultures. She also teaches Religion and Ecology in North America, an analysis of specific themes critical to the understanding of Indigenous ways of knowing and the impact of colonialism.
