This introduction to the academic study of games and gaming will address interactive simulations; first-person shooters; interactive fiction (text-adventure games); serious or persuasive games; alternate reality games; and texts as playable instruments. Our historical trajectory will move from early computer games such as Spacewar to contemporary military simulations.
Professor Rita Raley, English, teaches in the areas of globalization and the digital humanities, including courses on war and media, electronic literature, code, and cultures of empire.
