INT94BF: Enron, Worldcom, and Andersen (Why Accounting is Not Boring)

Wednesdays, 5:30-6:30pm, NH 2212

Enrollment Code: 57810

The financial world has been rocked by a seemingly endless sequence of corporate frauds. The purpose of this seminar is to help students understand the basic reporting framework that corporations in the United States follow to acquaint them with some basic tools to help them analyze corporate markets and why accounting information plays such a key role in setting market prices. We will use as case studies some of the most recent examples of bad corporate financial reporting.

Dr. Mary Nisbet, College of Letters and Science, has taught Introductory Accounting, International Accounting and Environmental Accounting in the Bren School of Environmental Science & Management. Her main area of interest is the interface between financial markets and accounting, and the use of financial statement numbers in setting market prices.
