The year 2009 is the bicentennial of Darwin’s birthday in 1809 and marks 150 years since the publication of his book “The Origin of Species” Biology has not been the same since, but a new Gallup Poll shows that only 39% of Americans say they “believe in the theory of evolution.” Should we celebrate or is this a time for critical evaluation? Explore the history and philosophy of science and find out where we came from. Join the discussion and the party.
Professor Mattanjah de Vries, Chemistry & Biochemistry, teaches Analytical Chemistry, Freshman Honors Chemistry, and special topics graduate courses. His research interests include studying the building blocks of life on a single molecular level with novel laser-based techniques, as well as applications in meteorite analysis and archeology.
