Description:
The mounting pressures of human activities on the global environment and our civic as well as personal well-being are examined with the goal of identifying alternative choices for our actions. New directions for the human enterprise are essential for a sustainable future. This seminar will assess key issues that contribute to the “Earth-in-Peril” conditions and discuss various paths to sustainability. The discussions will focus each week on one theme: population, climate, energy, cities, food, water, biodiversity, and limits. We will discuss the relevant background for each topic, identify the major problems and examine proposed solutions. The interdependence and connections between these areas of concern will be emphasized in our discussions of emerging policies and technologies for a “green” economy and a safe and sustainable world.
