Day: First five Tuesdays
Time: 1:00-3:00 p.m.
Location: Girvetz 2110
Enrollment Code: 55699
Description:
This course will introduce students to both the Palestinian and Israeli
perspectives on the Israeli-Palestinian conflict. The conflict is central to
American foreign policy, American economic stability, and American
national security, yet very few students have even a somewhat balanced
view of the conflict. Guest speakers from the Palestinian perspective,
the Israeli perspective, and from the perspectives of other nations with
interest in the conflict will discuss their views. In the end, the hope is that
students leave the course with some knowledge about the conflict, an
appreciation for the complex difficulties facing these populations, and a
recognition of the humanity of both Palestinians and Israelis.
Professor Walid Afifi, Communication, just completed teaching a freshman seminar on close relationships. He typically teaches in the areas of interpersonal and nonverbal communication. This proposed course has much more to do with his personal interests ( He is a Palestinian-American) than his scholarly ones. However, he will be relying on guest speakers whose expertise is on the conflict.
